Hello EMFC players and families, over the last few years concussions have been recognized as one of the most common injuries in several contact sports. After football, soccer and basketball are one of the major risk sports to suffer a concussion. Over the last few years, EMFC coaches have attended concussion training clinics put together by one of the experts in our area, Dr. Michael Koester from Slocum. Given the growing number of players in our club, Dr. Koester and I have put together an EMFC Concussion policy for all our coaches. All of the coaches will undergo concussion training, and follow a common procedure once a concussion is suspected or had occurred.

However, it is important for all our players and families to also get educated what concussions are and how you recover from them. In particular, the recovery process for concussions is very important. Our coaches will be able to help recognize concussions, remove players from activity and make sure they are properly taken to a health care professional. However, it is important that our players and families also learn more about the recovery process. Please read through the Parents Guide and keep it in a safe place to review if necessary. We all need to make sure to keep the playing field as safe as possible and prevent injuries. If injuries such as a concussion occurs it is very important to make sure we provide for the best possible recovery process to make a safe return of the player possible.
